NETWORK & SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR
Permanent Full-Time
(Chatham, Ontario)
Chatham-Kent Utility Services Inc. an innovative progressive company dedicated to providing the highest level of security requires an experienced Network and Systems Administrator for its Information Technology & Business Systems Services.
This position will direct and manage local and wide area computer network and system administrator activities.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Centralized management of corporate server, network and client infrastructure
- Planning, designing, and developing local and wide area networks
- Configuring, installing and maintaining local area network hardware and software such as personal computers, system software, software application, printers, servers, firewalls, routers, bridges, switches, modems, cabling and internet service (owned or rented)
- Problem solving network connectivity issues and monitoring traffic load through the corporate network
- Maintaining network users, user environment, directories and security
- Researching, evaluating, recommending and implementing new technologies
- Consulting with department managers to develop system solutions consistent with organizational objectives
- Communicating standards for use, operations, and security of network, personal computers and data
- Implementing policies and procedures related to network, hardware and software acquisition, use, support, security and backup
- Plan, design, sustain, and performance-tune storage environments across the organization, while ensuring high levels of data quality and system availability
- Communicating with other departments to report and resolve software, hardware and operational problems
- Installing, testing and making recommendations on software upgrades
- Packaging and automating remote software installation to corporate network users
- Designing, configuring and managing virtual server and storage area network environments
- Developing and implementing back-up solutions, disaster plans and recovery procedures, which include logical and physical redundancy
- Negotiating contracts with, and coordinating activities of, hardware and software vendors
- Collaborating to arrange and/or deliver necessary training programs for users
- Support for other IT needs of CK Energy initiatives as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Community college diploma or university degree in computer studies, or other closely related course, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience
- Four to six years practical experience in a corporate IT environment
- MCITP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional) or MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) qualified, or working towards qualifications
- Advanced academic and practical knowledge of network routers, switches and firewalls
- Current knowledge and hands-on experience of Microsoft infrastructure, including: Windows server 2003, 2008 (and 2008 R2), and Active Directory.
- Current knowledge and hands-on experience in utilizing network/pc management tools which enables management of large groups of computer systems including servers, pc’s, tablets, etc. as well as monitoring the general health of the network infrastructure.
- Knowledge of Linux server administration (Redhat Enterprise, Oracle Enterprise)
- Current knowledge and hands –on experience of set-up, configuration and management of virtual server environments using VMWare vSphere
- Current knowledge and hands-on experience of configuring and managing storage area networks, and centralized back-up methods and techniques including management of tape libraries
- Knowledge of configuration and management of high-availability server configurations (i.e. clustering and load balancing)
- Due to the responsibilities of this position, the successful candidate must be willing to occasionally work non-standard hours (evenings and weekends)
- Due to the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish and original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) prior to commencement of employment
- This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid (class G) Ontario driver’s licence; the successful candidate will be required to provide proof that she/he has a valid driver’s license upon being hired
